The list of speakers for the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been announced, and it features several mathematicians with ICTP connections. Speaking at ICM is of great importance and prestige in the mathematics community, and ICM speakers are commonly regarded as the current and future leaders of their mathematics fields. Here are seven mathematicans speaking at ICM who have also helped further ICTP's mission of scientific capacity building:
Moustapha Fall will be speaking for Section 8, Analysis and Operator Algebras. He is an alumni of the ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Program and is now an ICTP Associate, and a professor at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Senegal.
Meysam Nassiri was invited to give a talk to Section 9, Dynamical Systems and Ordinary Differential Equations. The ICTP Associate works at the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences in Iran, and has frequently visited ICTP and collaborated with ICTP scientists.
Konstantin Khanin and Carlangelo Liverani have both spoken at ICTP conferences, and are both giving talks jointly for Section 9, Dynamical Systems and Ordinary Differential Equations, and Section 11, Mathematical Physics. Khanin is a professor at the University of Toronto while Liverani is a professor at the University of Roma Tor Vergata.
Carolina Araujo is a professor focusing on algebraic geometry at the Instituo di Matamatica Pura e Applicada in Rio di Jainero, Brazil. She has held a Simmons Associateship at ICTP since 2015, a senior associateship which provides travel and conference support to a scientist and their students over five years. She is one of the speakers for Section 4, Algebraic and Complex Geometry
Meng Chen is a former posdoctoral fellow at ICTP, now a professor of mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He has been invited to give a talk at ICM to Section 4, Algebraic and Complex Geometry.
Rahul Pandharipande has been invited to give a plenary talk at ICM 2018. He was a co-organizer of an ICTP school in 2016, and is a professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich.
