ICTP, in collaboration with local universities, offers study opportunities to scientists from the developing world, helping them attain master's and doctoral degrees in physics and mathematics. Thanks to these collaborations, students from disadvantaged countries can pursue doctoral degrees in the following programmes:
- Physics PhD Programme: ICTP offers a scholarship for students from developing countries who want to do research in areas of interest to ICTP for this programme run by the University of Trieste.
- Joint ICTP/SISSA PhD Programme in Physics and Mathematics: for students who have completed ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Programme, this PhD course offers studies in: applied mathematics, mathematical analysis, geometry, mathematical physics; astroparticle physics, astrophysics; elementary particles; physics and chemistry of biological systems; statistical physics; condensed matter theory and numerical simulation.
