Encouraging the latest group of ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma
Programme students to mix learning with fun, Centre Director
Fernando Quevedo officially welcomed a class of 53 young scientists
from 28 developing countries to ICTP's intensive, one-year study
course.
"We are honoured that you are here with us and hope that you will
remain a part of our community for a long time to come," said
Quevedo in his address to the group. He added, "This is an
intense course, but it is also an opportunity for people from
different cultures to get to know each other. Establishing these
relationships and friendships is an important part of your
career."
For more than 20 years, ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Programme has
enabled students coming from developing countries, where
opportunities to learn from active researchers are rare or
non-existent, to interact with and learn from some of the best
minds in the fields of physics and mathematics. Areas of
instruction include high-energy physics, condensed matter physics,
mathematics, and Earth system physics.
Applications for the Programme starting in 2012 are due by the end
of 2011; for more details, visit the Postgraduate Diploma Programme
website.
