ICTP and Latin America

New agreement with Panama strengthens north-south ties
ICTP and Latin America

ICTP and the Technological University of Panama have signed an agreement for educational and scientific cooperation between the two institutes.

The agreement, which was signed on 11 October 2012, paves the way for scientific exchange programmes for students and faculty and the coordination of joint conferences and workshops, amongst other activities.

The Technological University of Panama, located in Panama City, is the country's second largest university, with an enrolment of 18,000 students.

The Panama agreement marks the latest in an ongoing commitment by ICTP to boost science in Latin America. In 2011, ICTP opened the South American Institute for Fundamental Research in collaboration with the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP) and the Sao Paulo Research Funding Agency (FAPESP); in 2012, ICTP has organized eight training activities in Brazil (2), Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba (2), Ecuador and Haiti. Since 1970 more than 12,000 visitors from Latin America have participated in ICTP scientific activities and received 16,300 months of training.
