Jagadish Shukla, a long-time ICTP course director and advisor, has been awarded the Padma Shri award by the Government of India. The prestigious award is one of the highest honours given by India, and recognizes Shukla's "exceptional and distinguished service in the field of Science and Engineering."
Shukla is professor and chair of the Climate Dynamics Program at George Mason University. He is also president of the Institute of Global Environment and Society (http://www.iges.org/). He has directed numerous climate-related courses at ICTP.
The Padma Shri award honours distinguished contributions in various fields, including the arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, medicine, social service and public life.
