Australian Broadcast Corporation journalist Richard Smith will
be at ICTP on Tuesday, 12 June for a special viewing of his
television documentary "Australia: The Time Traveller's
Guide".
The documentary explores the history of Earth's formation by
studying the landscape of Australia, a continent that provides a
uniquely preserved view of Earth's past. The documentary's official
description says:
"Of all continents on Earth, none preserve the story of the
formation of our planet and the evolution of life quite like
Australia. Nowhere else can you simply jump in a car and travel
back through the entire history of the world."
The ICTP presentation begins at 17:00 in the Main Lecture Hall.
Dr. Smith will introduce his experience in preparing the
documentary and then will screen one of the original four
episodes.
Dr. Smith began his professional career as a marine biologist. He
has since become a specialist in television documentaries. His
latest production is Rumble in the Jungle, a journey into the
deepest, darkest Amazon jungle in search of a long-lost meteor
crater with a team of Brazilian scientists. His previous films
include Black Holes, 50 Million Years under he Sea, Silent
Sentinels, and On Jupiter.
