Former ICTP Scientific Council Member Honoured on 80th Birthday

To mark the 80th birthday of Victor Latorre, a former ICTP Scientific Council Member (1970 to 1982) from Peru and a prominent figure in the Latin American physics community, a lecture series was organised on 20 December 2012 at the Universidad Ricardo Palma, Lima, Peru.

Lectures that were delivered included: Homenaje a Víctor Latorre by Fernando Ponce (Arizona State University, USA), Víctor Latorre, el maestro que enseñó cómo comprender el mundo sub atómico y la sociedad by Modesto Montoya (Instituto Peruano de Energia Nuclear, Peru), Víctor Latorre y el Instituto Internacional de Física Teórica de Trieste (ICTP) by Galileo Violini (Universita della Calabria, Italy) and Homenaje a Víctor Latorre por su 80 aniversario by Iván Rodríguez (Universidad Ricardo Palma, Perú). All the talks were delivered in Spanish.

Latorre, now member of the Academy of Sciences in Peru, has been a regular visitor to ICTP meetings and conferences and spoke about Science in Latin America on occasion of ICTP's After 45 celebration.
