ICTP Visitor to Receive Prestigious Award

Padma Kant Shukla, distinguished professor of physics at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, and a frequent visitor to ICTP, will be honoured with the "Hind Rattan Award" (The Jewel of India) by the Prime Minister of India in recognition of his contributions to physics.

Shukla, who is an important figure in the field of plasma physics and holds the Ruhr University Bochum International Chair in the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, has participated in ICTP training activities in plasma physics for more than two decades, serving as a course director for workshops and colleges on plasma physics since 1995.

The ceremony will take place during the 32nd International Congress of Non-resident Indians (NRI) on 25 January 2013 in Delhi, India. The award is supported by the NRI Welfare Society of India to promote unity, progress, friendship and co-operation worldwide.
