We sat down with Princeton University Professor and ICTP Scientific Council member William Bialek, a renowned theoretical biophysicist, to talk about biophysics, what drew him to the field, and how researchers from the two different cultures (physics and biology) are beginning to work together.
In the interview, Bialek also spoke about advancing biophysics in the developing world, the physicists' search for unifying theories to explain diverse examples in biological systems, and the future directions that biophysicists could take.
Bialek was at ICTP from 28 January to 1 February to deliver the 2013 Salam Distinguished Lectures titled "The Physics of Life: Searching for Theories.
