Friday Festivities at ICTP

Every year at the end of August, ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma students breathe a collective sigh of relief as they conclude their year of intense study and prepare for their post-Diploma lives. For most, that means the beginning of PhD studies at universities all over the world, an opportunity that all agree would not have been possible without the boost afforded them by the ICTP Diploma.

The annual August Diploma graduation ceremony brings the ICTP community together to congratulate the young scientists before they leave. This year's ceremony takes place Friday 24 August and will be livestreamed for ICTP's global audience.

Of course, the Diploma Programme and other ICTP scientific activities would not have been possible without the vision of ICTP founder Abdus Salam. That vision carries on to this day, not only by the Centre but also through the many scientists and staff committed to his dream. In 2014, Salam's family created a prize--the Spirit of Abdus Salam Award--to honour those who reflect Salam's zeal for supporting science in the developing world. This year's winners of the award-- Victor Latorre and Alberto Verjovsky-- will receive their recognition at a ceremony immediately preceding the Postgraduate Diploma graduation.
