ICTP Conversation: Ngô Bảo Chaû

ICTP Conversation: Ngô Bảo Chaû

ICTP is a hub for international science, attracting thousands of scientists each year, including some of the most prestigious physicists and mathematicians in the world. Hundreds of Nobel laureates, Fields medallists, and ICTP Dirac medallists have visited ICTP over the years, sharing their insights and perspectives with ICTP's international science community. ICTP is capturing some of these insights in its video series of "ICTP Conversations" and "Dirac Conversations". All were conducted by ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar, sometimes accompanied by members of the Centre's faculty.

In this ICTP Conversation video, meet mathematician Ngô Bảo Chaû, professor at the University of Chicago, as he is interviewed by Director Dabholkar and Claudio Arezzo, Head of the ICTP Mathematics section.

In this conversation, they discuss the fundamental lemma of Langlands Theory, for which Châu was awarded the Fields Medal in 2010. They also talk about the role that institutes such as ICTP and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) in Hanoi have been playing in advancing science globally.

The conversation took place in May 2023, when Châo was visiting the Centre in order to take part in the yearly meeting of the ICTP Scientific Council, of which he is a member.
