Hanoi, May 15 2024 — Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat handed over the Ta Quang Buu Awards 2024 to two scientists in recognition of their studies in physics and environment at a ceremony on Wednesday 15 May 2024.
The laureates are Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh from the Institute of Physics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Manh Tri from the University of Science under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh is the fourth female scientist to be granted the Ta Quang Buu Awards so far.
Dr. Nguyen was an ICTP postdoc 2007 - 2010. Now days she is a Regular ICTP Associate.
Thanh's research, published in Physical Review Letters, is relevant to the development of quantum computer technology.
This is what she said at the award ceremony (translation from Vietnamese):
"It is not enough for me to just talk about the love between Physics and me. Actually, this love has been nurtured mainly by the Nafosted National Foundation for Science and Technology Development since I returned to my country to work. Besides, the Center for Theoretical Physics, the Institute of Physics, the Abdus Salam International Center for Physics (ICTP), and the ICTP Asia network are places that have contributed to nurturing my enduring love of Physics."
