Two scientists who have been long-time collaborators with ICTP have received recognition from the Italian Physical Society (Società Italiana di Fisica--SIF).
GianCarlo Ghirardi, former head of ICTP's Associates Scheme, has been honoured with the title Socio Benemerito by SIF in recognition of his scientific achievements. Ghirardi's research interests include quantum scattering theory, symmetries in quantum theories, algebraic methods, S-matrix theory and decay processes. He is a member of the editorial board of Foundations of Physics and of Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Science, and the president of the Italian Society for the Foundations of Physics.
Giuseppe Mussardo received SIF's Outreach Prize 2013 for science dissemination, in particular for his film documentaries on Ludwig Boltzmann, Subrahmanyan Chandrashekar and ICTP founder Abdus Salam (movie available for download on ICTP's ITunesU channel)
SIF, a non-profit association, was established in 1897 to "promote, favour and protect the progress of Physics in Italy."
