The Quantitative Life Sciences (QLS) Section of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) seeks applications from outstanding scientists of any nationality with a strong research record for one postdoctoral position to start in spring 2025.
The position is linked to the project UNCOMMON “Unveiling the ecological dynamics of taxonomic and functional composition of microbial communities”, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, Decree 28.09.2021, n. 2281 “Procedura competitiva per lo sviluppo delle attività di ricerca fondamentale, a valere sul Fondo Italiano per la Scienza - FIS” (FIS 2903 - CUP J53C23002290001) with Dr. Jacopo Grilli as Principal Investigator.
ICTP is a UNESCO Category 1 Institute supporting science and education in the developing world. It promotes worldwide initiatives for the career development of Women in Science. The QLS section provides a unique international research environment for postdoctoral fellows with about 15 group members, an intense program of workshops and conferences, as well as close collaborations with local and international institutions.
The QLS section has expertise in a broad range of fields: quantitative ecology and evolution, theory of behavior, sensing, and learning, neuroscience, quantitative physiology, stochastic thermodynamics, high-dimensional statistics and theory of machine learning.
The selected postdoctoral researcher is expected to carry out active, independent and multidisciplinary research in the broad area of quantitative microbial ecology.
